CQD – Issue Version QoEMetrics

Hi all

I have encountered a little problem with the installation of CQD:

I was searching for the solution of this issue, I surfed in much web pages, much of Technet articules says what is the version that you need to have in your SFB QoEMetrics database. But I can’t find anything about the user that is needed to use for the installation process.

To detect if the problem is the version of QoEMetrics or the user privilege rights, try to execute a test-csdatabase with the affected user to get the database version. If you get a result like the image below, your user haven’t the appropiate permissions.

To solve this issue, use a user with the appropiate permissions or grant to the user administrative permissions in the database.

Audiocodes – Solve Issues with accented DisplayNames

Sometimes you have on a site some users with a display Name with special Characters. Well, if you have an audiocodes in the site you can have a problem. Audiocodes doesn’t accept calls with special characters in the display name by default. The ISO 8859 charset is the cause.

Calls always fail. But if you change the number to another user without special characters, the call can be made.

To solve this problem you need to apply in your Audiocodes the ISO 8859 charset:

“iso8859-charset no-accented”

Please, follow next steps to apply the ISO 8859:

Connect to Audiocodes with SSH, and enable the appliance to configure with administrator password

Next step, type “configure voip” to access to Voip configuration page.

Then, type “gw digital gw digital-gw-parameters” to access to GW Configuration.

Next step, type “iso8859-charset not-accented” to enable this charset, and then type “activate” to activate new features.

And then, exit from configure page and restart the appliance.

Enable Telnet on VVX Devices (Telnet Commands)

Hello all

My adventurous soul have discovered a new way to check stats, settings and more things without use web interface of Polycom VVX.

You can show more information using telnet (very useful for administrators and for troublesooting). However, Telnet is disabled by default on all Polycom device. If you want to use Telnet on VVX devices, you need to activate it, but the option doesn’t appear neither the phone menu or web interface. You need to create a cfg file to enable it.

To do that, open a notepad and type the following command:

<telnet diags.telnetd.enabled=”1″></telnet>

Then, you can rename it how you want, for examble “enableTelnet” but you need to ensure that the extension of this file is .cfg

After that, you must connect with VVX web interface and import this file using “import and export” configuration.

After that, you can connect by telnet to the device. By default, the user is “Polycom” but the password is the same that you configure in your Admin user (so if you didn’t change the default password, it will be “456“). (Note! If you have a mistake introducing username or pasword, it is probably that you need to restart the phone).

NOTE! Do not forget to create another cfg file to disable Telnet after you finish your configuration (If not, you will have a very high security hole). This file must have the following command:

<telnet diags.telnetd.enabled=”0″></telnet>

When you use “import and export” configuration to disable Telnet, phone will be restarted

How you have much possibilities availables to use commands. You can find below, a list of “Polycom Telnet commands” available to adapt to your needs (also you can obtain this list typing “help” on the command prompt):

Sometimes CQD Portal can be in error with error code 503 service unavailable.

Well, sometimes you need to install certain applications with privilege users that, for enterprise policies, it can’t have a password thar never expires. This is a very high problem to our administration, but sometimes we can’t fight with the Security Policy of the Company.

In this hand, it is possible that you find this problem at any time

This error will be following by a IIS event like this:

And then, you will finded the QoEPortal Application Pool disabled:

Turning my Home Network into a Secure Network

This article is not an Unified Communications topic, But I think that it is important to be more safe at home.
Exist a lot of topics on Internet about a safe network. I think a lot of them are usefull, but others are simply post without sense.

I can give you some recommendations to be more safe at your home network, even more if you use it for your daily work.

Modify your Router Settings.

If you can, change your standard router for a new one more secure. Although I imagine, that this action is very difficult. Instead, you can modify your router settings to be more safe.

How can I change my settings?

You need to enter into the configuration page (generally the IP Address of your gateway or to your operator control panel.

Use WPS is very usefull to connect to your network, more easy and simple, but a lot of hackers use it to hack your network and connect into it.

A good recommendation is to shut down WPS on your Router.

Next step to be more safe on your network, is to use a custom WPA (or WPA2) password. This password should be at least 6 chatacters including Numbers, Letters and if it is possible Special Characters (understanding % $ # @ as special characters).

Next step is to use double authentication factor. How? You can to activate MAC Filtering for example. Yes, I know, it is veeeery boring because it means to type one by one all your MAC devices. Yes it is true, but is more safe.

If you need, you can also follow more safety steps, this steps would be:

  • Hide your SSID: If you hide your SSID, only can to connect with it, if you know the SSID (but it will be more inproductive with a kind of devices)
  • Port Filtering (Open only safe ports).

When you finish, save your new configuration and restart your router. Before, you can work quietly because now your network will be more secure.
I hope this information will be usefull for you

How to use Call Quality Methodology (CQM)

What’s CQM?

CQM is the response of your Prayers. Most mushrooms that you can find in your platform can have a sense thanks to Call Quality Methodology.

This tool help you to obtain full statistics of your stream sessions. You can to obtain statistics from Call Quality, bad devices, bad streams, user rates, and more. It is a great tool (THANK YOU MICROSOFT!)

Here, you can look up more usefull information (and download links) of the tool:

Now I explain you some instructions that you can follow to deploy the tool in your platform.

First, you may download the tool from here.

The tool is just a Powershell Script that obtain data from SQL Server, It doesn’t touch anything, doesn’t modify anything. So you can save it on any computer or server in you network. I recommend to save it on a computer that you use for remote management. Instead you can save it on your SQL Server if you want (remember, the tool doesn’t modify anything, it is safe).

When you will have it into a directory on your machine (for instance E:\CSResources), you can start using the tool.

You will have the following files and folders (all of them are important).

As you can see, you will have an excel named “Microsoft Call Quality Methodology Scorecard for Skype for Business Server v15”, be patient, this file is not important now. You can use it after you get the information.

Ok, so now you need to open a Windows Powershell. Browse to CQM directory
Next, you need to known what date format you have into your SQL. To known it, you need to execute “getSQLDateFormat.ps1” script typing your SQL Instance.

Next, you can to obtain data with the other script CQM.ps1. You will need to type the first day that you want to collect data. after that, you need to indicate to the script the instance as the same mode as you typed it on “getSQLDateFormat.ps1”.

After CQM have collected data you can look up it at “Results” directory. Similar as the following

Inside the folder, you can see all querys discovered.

Ok, Firsts steps are over. Now you need to ordenate the information. How you can sort this data?

Now you need to open “Microsoft Call Quality Methodology Scorecard for Skype for Business Server v15” after that, you need to allow macros and enable editing. When you have complete this steps you should have an excel as the following:

Next step is to import CQM Query Results, to do that you need click on “import CQM Query Results” and then search the exported folder that you type on CQM.ps1 (DataRoot option)
As you can see, more than one tab are available now, for example “Endpoint_0_Device”,”Endpoint_1_system”, …

Next step is to generate all informs. “stream Distribution Charts”, “Trending charts”, “Reliability Charts” and “Top issues”. If you have follow all steps correctly, you must have an inform as the following:

If you followed all steps and you arrived here, you got it! Please, read Microsoft Call Quality Methodology.docx for more detailed information. This tool have a lot of possibilities.

I hope this information will be usefull for you.

Thank you

Skype For Business with Skype Issues

Hello guys!

Today I have a very appetizing mushroom. Perhaps you have had at anytime a problem with your Skype to Skype for Business integration.

I describe the problem:

Some users advise you that they can contact with Skype users, but Skype users can’t view presence and doesn’t have chat with Skype for business users, for example:

If you have tested your deployment, and you followed all steps from Technet guidance: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn705313.aspx

Also you checked your firewall and everything is allowed. Keep calm, you are not crazy. Your environment are correctly configured, but you have some users that are using Lync 2013 (With or without skype for business interface). Please, follow next steps to solve your issue.

Check if your users with those clients have next configuration:

If not, please apply it and try again.

Open your client options and go to ‘alerts’. On ‘contacts not using Skype for Business’ menu, check ‘allow anyone to contact me’. The problem will be resolved.

I hope this information will be useful for you.
